Born in Sydney, Catherine Bateson grew up in Brisbane where her mother owned a second hand bookshop. Bateson writes across a number of styles and genres - poetry, prose, novels, reviews; and for a variety of audiences - children, young people and adults. Her book, 'Rain May and Captain Daniel', won a Children's Book Council of Australia Award and the Queensland Premier's Literary Award for Best Children's Book in 2003.
